More performance for the international DPD platform
Overview
DPD operates an international websites based on the CMS by Ibexa. Because of the increasing number of visitors to the website, the existing system is to be migrated to a new platform.
The solution in detail
DPD benefited from silver.solutions’ and Paul Borgermans’ new consulting service. In addition to consulting, the service also includes support for all areas of clustering and Search Engine.
silver.solutions together with Paul Borgermans and with DELICom, the IT subsidiary of DPD, has created and implemented a scalable cluster concept.
The new website was installed on a Ibexa CMS with a Cluster solution and uses the search engine by Ibexa. Varnish Cache ensures fast content delivery. The cache stores frequently viewed pages in the main memory and makes them available quickly when needed.
In many instalations, the search engine and Solr options are used to a limited extent only. However, the search functionality has gained in significance for the website over the past few years. In order to find the contents and products of a website better, the search engine has to be precisely adjusted for each application. Through finely tuned boosting, it is often possible to significantly improve the search results: for instance, important search results such as products can be displayed at the top, and less important texts further down. This can also be combined with other factors such as availabilities, margins or customer ratings.
