Relaunch of Highlite website and update of retailer shop

Overview

For almost 10 years Highlite has been operating a very successful B2B shop based on the silver.solutions shop solution combined with the B2B-Connector for Microsoft Dynamics NAV. silver.solutions was now commissioned with the implementation of a design relaunch and an update of the shop and the editing system. Many new functions were implemented in this context, especially for the editors and specialist retailers.

The solution in detail

The core of the current task was the implementation of a design for shop and website. A new design was developed by Highlite based on the technical specifications of silver.solutions. silver.solutions implemented the design specifications in the latest HTML5 and CSS. Onsite SEO was taken into consideration from the outset.

The new website is primarily a B2B shop with a public catalogue for end customers. With regard to product presentation the shop is geared towards the four brands that Highlite markets. End customers can browse the entire product range and find a distribution partner via the retailer search function. A search function for old products was implemented independently of the current product range. This allows customers to find products that are not in the active product range but for which there are manuals, documentation, software, etc. available for download.

With the complete design overhaul the editing system was updated. One of the major advantages here is the use of the flexible portal solution. Editors can now put together their own homepages and overviews using elements from a  predefined module system. Time-controlled publishing allows pre-produced content to be introduced and rotated. Another extension for editors is the new news archive, which automatically compiles the articles each month and archives them.

In addition to customer-specific prices from the ERP, the shop now provides a number of other services for retailers who are logged in, for example the option of accessing outstanding invoices online and paying for them there and then via the payment provider Ogone.

The shop system was updated at the same time as the editing system. AJAX is only ever used when additional data is loaded from the ERP during runtime. Documents and films can be added to the product data in the detailed view. Accessory products are referred to together with the product.

The result

The latest software version and the contemporary design together create a better user experience. New service functions leads to more satisfaction among specialist dealers. The update does not only address specialist dealers, however, the Highlite catalogue now also provides more detailed information for end customers.
